چکیده

Experimental Section Cross-polarised optical microscopy was performed using an Olympus BH-2 microscope coupled to a Leica DM-IRB digital camera. The gel samples were sealed two glass plates using vacuum grease to enable aging observations. Small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) experiments were performed using a rotating anode with a copper target (λ = 1.54 Å). The distance between the sample and the detector was fixed at 1.16 m, the scattering wave vectors ranging between 0.5 nm and 10 nm, the instrument width being approximately 5×10 nm. The samples were placed between two 30 μm mica sheets spaced by a glass object plate (1 mm thickness) with a window in its center and sealed with vacuum grease. X-ray exposure time was 1 h. Centrifuging was performed at 200 g using an Eppendorf 5412 centrifuge. Unless noted otherwise, chemicals were purchased from commercial firms (>99% pure) and used as received. Triple-distilled water was used in all experiments.

Phenylthiourea Modified Highly Ordered Nanoporous Silica for Heavy Metal Ion (Hg2+ ) Trapping

The phenylthiourea-substituted triethoxysilane as a silane agent was synthesized and grafted on highly ordered nanoporous silica (LUS- 1) with a textured morphology and hexagonal array. This material (Tu-LUS-1) contained 0.8 mmol/g of soft base phenylthiourea group and surface area 760 m2 g-1  and was able to adsorb 0.75 mmolHg/g of TU-LUS-1 in endothermic reaction.

Coalescence of Nanoclusters and Formation of Submicron Crystallites Assisted by Lactobacillus Strains

Lactobacillus strains, common in buttermilk, assist the growth of gold, silver, and gold-silver alloy crystals of submicron dimensions upon exposure to the precursor ions. Several well-defined crystal morphologies are observed. Crystal growth occurs by the coalescence of clusters, and tens of crystals are found within the bacterial contour. Crystal growth does not affect the viability of the ba...

Nanofabrication of electrodes with sub-5 nm spacing for transport experiments on single molecules and metal clusters

Electron-beam deposition is used to fabricate free-standing carbon nanoelectrodes separated by a gap of less than 5 nm. Fabrication is carried out under direct visual control in an electron microscope. After coating the carbon electrodes with a thin metal film ~e.g., AuPd! such structures can be used to study electrical transport properties of single molecules ~e.g., conjugated polymers! or met...

Computational study of electronic, spectroscopic and chemical properties of Cun(n=2-8) nanoclusters for CO adsorption

First-principle calculations were carried out to investigate the adsorption of CO over Cun nanoclusters. The structural, spectroscopic and electronic properties like optimized geometries, HOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital) and LUMO (lowest unoccupied molecular orbital) energy levels, binding energy, adsorption energy, vibrational frequency and density of states (DOSs) of the p...

Core/shell-structured bimetallic nanocluster catalysts for visible-light-induced electron transfer*

It has been found that the bimetallic nanoclusters often have so-called core/shell structure if they are prepared by alcohol-reduction of two kinds of noble metal ions in the presence of a water-soluble polymer like poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrolidone)(PVP), and that the core/ shell structured bimetallic nanoclusters have much higher catalytic activity than the corresponding monometallic nanoclusters. He...
